Military and Commercial Pistols
At circa serial #3,000 to the end of production, the Type 2 stock screw
al was thickened to allow a deeper slot in the stock screw bushing to
pevent burning. The overall length of the stock screw bushing was short-
ened to 0.279 inch to prevent the stock screw head from protruding too far past the stock. The base ring and bottom section measurements were unchanged.
Stock Screws
The stock screws secured the stocks to the receiver,
The stock screw was 0.355 inch long overall. The screw heads were slotted for a flat
head screwdriver. Two types of stock screws were used and the shanks were threaded .1500-50 NS-2.
From serial #1 to circa serial #2,999 the Type 1
stock screw head was 0.275 inch in diameter and 0.08 thick. The shank was 0.280 inch long. The screwdriver slot in the thin head was easily deformed; a change was ap-
proved in March 1912 to make the head thicker and the slot deeper.
The Type 2 stock screw head was made thicker (0.10 inch) to deepen the
screwdriver slot. The bushing was shortened by 0.02 inch to prevent the screw heads from protruding against the shooter's hand. To prevent the
shank from protruding into the magazine well, it was shortened to 0.255 inch.
The Type 2 stock screw was used from circa serial #3,000-EOP.
Colt stock screws through circa serial #2,400 were "fire blued” to a
bright, iridescent color, sometimes called "peacock blue." After circa serial #s 2,401 to circa 734,000, stock screws were not as highly
polushed and were a dull blue. Starting at circa serial #s 734,001-735,001 to 1,700,000-1.710.000 they were Parkerized. After, to the end of production they received the Parco-Lubrite finish.
All Ithaca and Remington Rand stock screws were Du-Lite finished to
circa 1.208,674 (Ithaca) and 1,015.001 (Remington Rand). They were
Parkerized thereafter. Singer stock screws were Du-Lite finished. US&S stock screws were polished without sandblasting and so appear bright"
